Darragh MacAnthony urges his Posh players to sieze the moment in a wide open League One title race and he won’t be accepting a hactic fixture schedule as an excuse

Peterborough United have been urged to sieze the moment and take a firm grip on a League One promotion race which lacks a clear favourite.

Posh co-owner Darragh MacAnthony believes the division is there for the taking this season as no-one has managed to get away from the pack.

MacAnthony certainly won’t allow a hectic schedule which will see Posh play on eight successive Tuesdays during a run of 16 matches in 56 days become an excuse.

MacAnthony said on his popular ‘Hard Truth’ podcast: “This season is a golden opportunity. League One has been going nowhere.

Lincoln have done well to get more games in than the rest, but no-one looks like getting away. Just last weekend we drew at Lincoln, Hull and Sunderland drew, Crewe drew after leading 3-0 and Ipswich lost to Swindon.

“It’s a wide open division and our players need to take advantage.

“I have a chuckle at people who say superfit athletes can’t play three times in eight days on a regular basis.

“Of course they can and they should stop bellyaching and just get on with it. It’s a privilege to be playing football right now.”

Posh, who are fifth in League One nine points behind leaders Lincoln with two games in hand, are currently 8/1 fourth favourites to win the League One title with Sky Bet behind Portsmouth (9/4), Hull (3/1) and Lincoln (9/2).

Posh face back-to-back homes games against MK Dons on Saturday (January 16, 3pm) and seventh-placed Charlton on Tuesday (January 19, 6.30pm).
