The League Two side stunned their hosts with a 1-0 win courtesy of a second-half strike from Liam Sercombe. It was the fourth season in a row Posh have been beaten in the opening round of the EFL cup competition.

“We were excellent,” Duff stated, “We thoroughly deserved to win.

“We played some really good football in the first-half and in the second half we showed a different side with plenty of reslince, organisation and game management.

“We’ve beaten a good side who have good players here and I’m delighted. We’re competitive animals. Okay the important stuff starts next weekend, but we wanted to win this game.

“We showed some positive signs. Our goalkeeper was excellent after an early mistake, Lewis Freestone (ex-Posh) was very good and Liam Sercombe was a Rolls Royce in midfield.”
