Co-owner Stewart ‘Randy’ Thompson tweeted: “Easily the most memorable day for me as a owner.

“Hopefully the belief we showed against Accrington sets in for the season. The gaffer (Darren Ferguson) said to me last week that his message to the lads was ‘enjoy the run in, we’ve worked hard for 20 months for this.’

Fellow co-owner Darragh MacAnthony stated it was his favourite win of the season.

MacAnthony said: “What a magnificent win and performance. That’s how football should be played by trying to score as many goals as possible. It’s my favourite win of the season. The lads were brilliant after taking a bit of criticism for recent performances.

“This promotion race is going right down to the wire. It’s going to be exciting and it’s great to be a part of it.

“After last season, it’s great to see the winners and losers decided on the pitch.”
