ALAN SWANN’s player ratings from Peterborough United’s 4-0 win over Southend

Peterborough United were far from their scintillating best tonight (February 11), but then they didn’t have to be to see off the worst team in League One at the Weston Homes Stadium.

Posh were poor in the first-half, but once they hit the front early in the second-half they were unstoppable again as they scored four times for the third game in a row.

It was a good, rather than great display which is reflected in the Peterborough Telegraph player ratings.

Key: 10-Perfect, 9-Outstanding, 8-Very good, 7-Good, 6-Average, 5-Poor, 4-Stinker.

Christy Pym: A quiet night as expected for the Posh goalkeeper who looked calm and composed throughout 6

Rhys Bennett: A very professional display from the recalled centre-back. Took no chances with his defending 7

Mark Beevers: A stroll in the park for the experienced skipper against very limited and very young opponents 7

Niall Mason: Played okay defensively and delivered one delightful early pass which should have led to a goal for Toney 7

Joe Ward: A strong assist on the opening goal capped another solid night for the wing-back 7

Dan Butler: His corner-taking isn’t bad and one set-piece led to the final goal for Toney. Chugged up and down the wing all night as usual with varying degrees of success 7

Jack Taylor: A splendid finish from the edge of the area capped a decent second-half display after a weak first-half performance 7

Reece Brown: Struggled to pass with his usual accuracy, but started the move for the opening goal with a fine crossfield ball before his standard substitution 6

Sammie Szmodics: Took a knock early on which reduced his effectiveness considerably until he was taken off at 2-0 6

Ivan Toney: Reacted well to the disappointment of a costly caution to deliver two more expert finishes in a dominant second-half display 7

Siriki Dembele: A third goal in three matches for the attacking livewire and he had a hand in the second goal. He’s enjoying a consistent run of good form 7
