A crowd of 278 pitched up at In2itive Park - over treble the club’s normal attendance - to see Mackail-Smith playing for Bedford Town. Another ex-Posh striker Rene Howe also played for the visitors.

Both drew a blank, but Bedford took home the points thanks to a solitary goal midway through the second half. Yaxley are at home again on Tuesday (October 27) when North Leigh are the visitors.

Stamford AFC lost ground on the leaders in the South East Division of the Northern Premier League after throwing away a two-goal lead at Chasetown. Rob Morgan scored twice in the opening 20 minutes for the Daniels, but the hosts hit back with two goals after the break.

Stamford are sixth ahead of a trip to lowly Sheffield FC on Tuesday (October 27).

Spalding United lost for a fifth straight game at high-flying Worksop and are now fourth from bottom, two places above Wisbech Town who lost 3-0 at leaders Loughborough Dynamo.

Peterborough Northern Star’s miserable United Counties Premier Division season continued with a 10-1 drubbing at tale-toppers Anstey Nomads, while Holbeach United’s game at Shepshed was abandoned early in the second half because of a waterlogged pitch with the Tigers 2-0 down.

Blackstones delivered a stunning second-half display to come from behind and beat Birstall 5-2 in Division One. Will Bird scored twice.

Whittlesey lost for just the second time this season, 2-1 at Saffron Dynamo. Ollie Long scored their goal.

Jack Friend scored both goals as third-placed March Town won 2-0 at Diss Town in Division One North of the Eastern Counties League.
