Toney has yet to score since a reported £600k move from Newcastle United last month and he missed numerous scoring chances in Tuesday’s Checkatrade Trophy tie at MK Dons.

But Posh manager Steve Evans and chairman Darragh MacAnthony are confident the 22 year-old will soon be up and running.

Toney has been limited to two starts and five substitute appearances for Posh so far.

“I have no concerns about Ivan,” Evans insisted. “He did miss some chances at MK, ones he would normally score with his eyes shut, but he actually played pretty well otherwise. He never hid and he kept putting himself about for the team.

“Ivan thrives on crosses, but I bet he hasn’t had anyone deliver them like Marcus Maddison in his career. The chances will keep coming and he will start scoring. I have no doubt about that.”

MacAnthony took to social media to say: “Ivan Toney is a serious player. There is no doubt about that.”

Toney is likely to start as a substitute in the League One game at Southend on Saturday (September 8).
