The city side claimed a routine 3-0 win over lowly Alvechurch at the Bee Arena yesterday (February 8) to stay third and well within range of leaders Tamworth and second-placed Bromsgrove Sporting.

Sports never reached their best form, but they didn’t need to once star man Dion Sembie-Ferris opened the scoring direct from a free kick on the half hour mark.

Sembie-Ferris added a second with a close range header before Cameron Johnson completed the scoring with a 20-yard strike 15 minutes from time in front of a crowd of 178.

Yaxley are also going great guns in Division On Central. Their emphatic 3-0 win at AFC Dunstable was a sixth in a row and they are seventh going to a game at rock bottom Wantage on Tuesday.

Dan Cotton, Josh Earps and Dan Jarvis scored for the Cuckoos.

There will be no all-local United Counties League Cup Final as Deeping Rangers went down 3-1 in their semi-final at Rothwell Corinthians, while Holbeach United were beating Premier Division title fancies Loughborough University 1-0 in their last-four tie at Carters Park thanks to a Michael Frew goal.

Pinchbeck United slumped to the bottom of the top flight after losing 2-1 at fellow strugglers Sleaford Town, while Bourne Town and Huntingdon Town fought out a goalless scrap towards the bottom of Division One as Whittlesey Athletic were winning 2-0 at Rushden & Higham.

Wisbech Town lost 1-0 at home to Carlton in Brett Whaley’s first Northern Premier League South East Division game as manager, but Whaley’s former club March Town won 4-2 at Needham Market Reserves in Division One North of the Eastern Counties League.

Craig Gillies scored twice for March and now has 25 goals for the season.
