There was some hope for teams pushing for success as the Northants FA decided to leave it to their affiliated leagues whether to void the competition or allow promotions and titles to be decided on a points per game played basis.

But League officials have told the PT: “PJAL are null and voiding the season on advice from the Football Association.

“It is a shame to end this way, but we have looked at all alternatives and understand it wouldn’t please everyone no matter what decision we made.

“The problem is we have no pitches until September and some divisions are within 2/3 games of reaching a conclusion and others still have 8/9 matches to go.

“It’s the same with most of the cup competitions.

“Signing and movement of players would also be a nightmare to deal with.

“We did look at points per game, but some teams have only played bottom of league sides and others have played all the top teams so it wouldn’t be a fair reflection.”

The Peterborough & District Youth League still have scope to promote teams depending on the number of entries for next season.
