Vieira hat-trick as Peterborough Sports beat Stamford in an FA Cup thriller, Wisbech scrape through, Deeping bow out, Yaxley win a shootout in a League Cup tie

Peterborough Sports scored twice in added time to win a pulsating FA Cup preliminary round replay against 10-man Stamford AFC at the Bee Arena last night (September 4).

In a ding-dong affair, Sports led 2-0 through a brace of Avelino Vieira goals in the opening 14 minutes, but Rob Morgan and a stunning strike from Joe Burgess drew the Daniels level before the break.

The game looked to have tipped firmly in Sports favour again when Stamford’s Chris Salt was dismissed for an apparent stamping offence early in the second-half.

But the visitors took the lead seven minutes from time through Eliot Putman only for Vieira to complete his hat-trick in the 91st minute before Josh Moreman grabbed a last-gasp winner for the home side.

It was a classic cup tie all played out in front of record Peterborough Sports crowd of 351.

Sports now travel to Basildon United in a first qualifying round tie on Saturday (September 8). Basildon play at a similar level to Sports and have also

Wisbech Town are also through after scraping past lower level Sileby Rangers 5-3 on penalties following a 0-0 draw in their replay. They travel to Great Wakering Rovers on Saturday for their qualifying round tie,

But Deeping Rangers are out. They lost 3-0 at AFC Rushden Diamonds in their preliminary round replay.

Yaxley pipped a weakened St Ives side 2-0 on penalties in a Southern League Cup tie last night. Yaxley led 2-0 before St Ives fought back to draw level at In2itive Park. Tom Waumsley and Matt Sparrow scored for the Cuckoos.
