Peterborough Sports’ title hopes in United Counties League Division One suffered a massive body blow yesterday (December 6).
Sports were beaten for the second time this season by Northampton Spencer despite playing against 10 men for the final half-an-hour. By then Spencer were already in front and they created the better chances even when playing with a man down.
Sports are now third in the table, eight points behind leaders Lutterworth with two games in hand. Spencer are just a point behind Sports and they have played three fewer games than the city side.
Bourne did dent the promotion challenge of Northampton ON Chenecks by holding them to a 2-2 draw at the Abbey Lawns. All the goals arrived in the first-half with Joe Bull and Jones De Sousa scoring for Bourne.
Huntingdon bounced back from successive Premier Division defeats to beat Desborough 3-2, Desborough had lowered Huntingdon’s colours the week before and went into an early lead in the re-match, but second-half goals from Olly Medwynter, Declan Rogers (penalty) and debutant Charlie Sanders saw Huntingdon home.
Spalding’s superb form in Division One South of the Evo Stik League continued with a 1-0 home win over Romulus. Jordan Hempenstall scored the vital goal just before the hour mark to make it four straight wins for the Tulips and eight wins in an unbeaten run of nine matches.
The win enabled Spalding to move back into fourth place, a play-off-position.
