Changing manager worked out well for Spalding United, but not so well for Stamford AFC today (November 7).

The Tulips parted company with Paddy Rayment earlier in the week and put his assistants Marcus Ebdon - a Wembley winner with Peterborough United as a player in 1992 - and Danny Hussey in charge for the Evo Stik Division One South game at home to Newcastle Town.

And Spalding’s players responded superbly by racing to a 5-0 win over a Newcastle side who had won the three previous meetings between the sides.

Josh Moreman shot Spalding in front in the opening minutes before Jake Newman (2), Mitch Griffiths and Sam Murphy - with his first goal for the club - also found the target.

Ebdon admitted after the game that he wanats to return to management, He will definitely be in charge of Tuesday’s (November 10) Doodson Cup tie at home to Premier Division Matlock Town.

Stamford sacked their manager Andrew Wilson after just 10 games and 40 days in charge at the Zeeco Stadium this week, but ‘The Daniels, who haven’t won at home in the league all season, served up more of the same today.

Senior player Jon Challinor took charge and watched his side lose 4-0 to Nantwich in a game that didn’t even offer a crumb of comfort to Stamford supporters. The Daniels remain next-to-bottom of the Northern Premier Division.

Most of the United Counties League programme was washed out, but Deeping Rangers did play amd moved up into fifth place in the Premier Division with a 5-1 win over lowly Wellingborough Town. Jezz Goldson-Williams (2), Scott Coupland, Jason Kilbride and Will Bird scored the Deeping goals.

And Peterborough Sports are now 10 points clear at the top of Division One after recording win number 13 from 13 games at home to Burton Park Wanderers. The city side were 4-0 up at half-time before easing to a 5-2 win.

Karl Gibbs claimed a hat-trick with Olly Medwynter and Jordn MacLeod also scoring.

Burton did become the first team to score twice against Sports in a league game this season. Earlier in the week Sports had conceded for the first time away from home when winning 5-1 at Oakham.

Blackstones were beaten 3-1 at Northampton ON Chenecks. Addie Staffieri had equalised in the firsry-half for Stones.

March Town United are eighth in Division One of the Thurlow Nunn League after pipping Team Bury 2-1 at the GER. Luke Pepper and Alex Knowles were the men on target.
