Wisbech suffered the agony of a last-gasp defeat in the semi-final of the ChromaSport Trophies United Counties Premier League Cup at the hands of Rushden & Diamonds last night (March 31).

A fortnight ago Diamonds gained a crucial Premier Division point from ‘The Fenmen’ with a 99th minute equaliser and last night they booked a place in the cup final with an 89th minute winning goal. It finished 2-1 to the home side at The Dog & Duck. Danny Beuamont had scored a first-half equaliser for Wisbech.

It was a night for late goals as Holbeach United scored twice in added time to force a 3-3 draw against Deeping Rangers in a Premier Division derby at Outgang Road. Lee Beeson and Charlie Sanders both netted after the 90th minute in a 3-3 draw.

Ash Murrell had scored the opening goal for ‘The Tigers’. Levi Wright (2) and Matt Sparrow had seemingly given Deeping a match-winning advantage.

March Town also conceded a late goal in their Thurlow Nunn Division One match at home to Downham. Peterborough-based players Gerard Evans and Liam Merryweather scored the March goals in a 2-2 draw.

The Peterborough League Rep XI had their final warm-up match before tackling the Northampton Town League in a Midlands Inter-League Cup tie at Chestnut Avenue on April 18. They drew an entertaining game 3-3 against a Peterborough Northern Star XI at Chestnut Avenue.

Stilton United, who didn’t have any players in the original Rep XI squad, provided two of the goalscorers in Herbie Panting and player-boss Mark Baines. Liam Bohonis of Sawtry claimed the other goal, while Josh Sanders, Jack Smith and Dean Giglio were on target for Star.

Chestnut Avenue hosts another cup final tonight (April 1) when Premiair and AFC Allbright contest the PFA Sunday Junior Cup Final (7.30pm kick-off).
