March Town dumped higher level Histon out of the Cambs Invitation Cup after launching a thrilling comeback against 10 men last night (January 27).

The Thurlow Nunn Division One side conquered their Southerm Premier League opponents 5-3 in a quarter-final at the GER thanks to a hat-trick from Dan Woods and a double from Denny Escorio.

March enjoyed the perfect start with a penalty in the first minute for handball which led to a red card for a visiting defender. Woods scored from the spot, but just past the hour mark the 10 men had fought back to lead 3-1.

But March finished strongly to score four goals in the final 18 minutes to book their semi-final spot.

Stamford won the big Lincs Senior Trophy derby quarter-final against Spalding thanks to an early goal from Lewis Carr, but Holbeach United bowed out at the same stage, 2-0 at Grantham.

And a depleted Peterborough Sports side crashed out of the United Counties League Cup, 3-0 at home to Cogenhoe.

Yaxley failed to make ground on the top two in the United Counties Premier Division as they were held to a 0-0 draw at Sleaford. The Cuckoos are two points behind second-placed Holbeach who have played two fewer games.

Peterborough Northern Star stayed fifth after conceding a late equaliser to Huntingdon at Chestnut Avenue. Nick Davey nodded Star in front just before the break, but a fluke 87th minute equaliser when a wild shot cannoned into the net off the head of Tom Mann earned Huntingdon a point. City-man Ian Edge now has four points from his two games as Huntingdon manager.

Deeping Rangers’ fine run of form ended with a 2-1 home defeat at the hands of Boston Town. The pivotal moment arrived on the half hour when home defender Matt Carter was sent off after conceding a penalty. Boston were 2-0 with 10 five minutes to go when in-form Jezz Goldson-Williams claimed a consolation for Deeping.
