Teenager Josh Hales became an instant hero for Bourne last night (January 6) with a hat-trick on his debut for the club.

Hales joined the Abbey Lawns outfit after a free-scoring spell in the Peterborough Premier Division with Langtoft United. He started his new career with three goals in a 5-2 United Counties Division One home win over St Neots Saints.

Aris Placis scored the other two goals for a Bourne side who are now unbeaten in five matches.

It wasn’t such a good night for promotion-chasing Peterborough Sports who went down 1-0 at fellow high-fliers Potton. Potton moved above Sports into third place following an own goal from centre-back Chris Lenton 15 minutes from time.

Deeping Rangers came from a goal down to beat lowly Harrowby 3-1 in the Premier Division on a night when both sides were reduced to 10 men. Adam Scotcher was the man to see red for Deeping.

Harrowby opened the scoring early on with Spencer Tinkler replying from the penalty spot for Deeping in first-half injury-time. Goals in the final 10 minutes from Tom Palmer and Jordan Avis saw Deeping over the line.

Peterborough Northern Star conceded an 88th-minute equaliser in a 2-2 draw at Eynesbury, a minute after full-back Jack Barron had been dismissed for the second of two yellow card offences.

Eynesbury scored early in the game, but goals from Phil Stebbing and Jordan Macleod saw Star in front by half-time. Teenager Macleod also created Stebbing’s goal.

Star are fourth in the table, but some way behind second-placed Holbeach and third-placed Yaxley who meet tonight (January 7) at Carter’s Park.

And there is no stopping in-form Spalding who crushed higher-level opposition Barwell 4-1 in the Evo Stik League’s Doodson Cup competition. Andrew Tidswell (2), Mitch Griffiths and Lewis Webb scored the goals for Spalding who marched impressively into the quarter-finals.
