Frustration for Peterborough Sports, embarrassment for March Town

Peterborough Sports suffered a frustrating return to Evo Stik League action last night (October 9).

The city side retained their unbeaten record and moved up a place to third in Division One Central of the Southern League by drawing 1-1 at Barton Rovers.

But Jake Newman’s 58th-minute goal looked set to push Sports up to second place until the concession of an 89th minute equaliser.

Sprts, who were knocked out of the FA Cup after a record run to the third qualifying round on Saturday, are back in knockout action on Saturday when they host Southern League rivals Cambridge City in the FA Trophy at the Bee Arena (October 13, 3pm). City are a place behind Sports in the Central division.

In-form March Town suffered a shock defeat in the Cambs Invitation Cup. 2-0 at home to lower level Linton Granta, after a performance manager Brett Whaley labelled ‘embarrassing’.

Wisbech St Mary also bowed out after a 1-0 reverse at Histon.
