FA competitions prove sweet for Peterborough Northern Star and Stamford while Hares leap up the table

FA competitions for Peterborough Northern Star and Stamford AFC proved sweet last night (October 16).

Star won an eventful FA Vase replay at home to United Counties Premier Division rivals Sleaford Town 2-0, while Stamford AFC beat Belper 1-0 in an FA Trophy preliminary round replay at the Zeeco Stadium.

Star scored early through Jake Sansby, but the same player then saw a first-half penalty saved. Lucas Gereltauskas added a second Star goal after the break before Sleaford saw a man dismissed late on. There were also multiple cautions in a fiesty affair.

The start if Stamford’s match was delayed by floodlight failure and the hosts survived heavy late Belper pressure after taking the lead through Grant Ryan’s 57th minute penalty.

The Daniels now host Leek Town in the first qualifying round layter this month. Star travel to Redbridge in the second round of the FA Vase early next month.

March Town are up to sixth in Division One North of the Eastern Counties League after a 3-1 win at King’s Lynn Reserves secured by a strong second-half performance last night. Rob Conyard scored twice for the Hares with Toby Allen also scoring before he was shown a second yellow card for simulation and was sent off.

March manager Brett Whaley said: “Another great reaction from the boys in the second half tonight. Created plenty of chances and worked so hard. Gutted for Toby Allen who deserves to have everyone talking about the quality of his goal, not anything else!”

Leading Peterborough Premier Division side Netherton United host Bourne Town of the United Counties First Division in a first round tie in the Hinchingbrooke Cup tonight (October 17, 8.10pm).
