Peterborough Sports took the honours in the big local derby at Evo Stik Southern League rivals Yaxley this afternoon (August 27).
Jimmy Dean’s side took the honours 3-1 at In2itive Park thanks to goals from Mitchell Griffiths after seven minutes, Paul Malone in the 27th minute and Joshua McCammon on the final whistle.
Dan Cotton netted the Yaxley goal in the 79th minute.
That made it three wins from three Division One Central games for Sports.
In the Evo Stik Northern League Eastern Division there was a win for Stamford.
They were at Pontefract Collieries and won 2-1 with Bradley Fortnam-Tomlinson smashing the winner with nine minutes remaining.
Stamford went 1-0 down on 39 minutes but levelled through Rob Morgan early in the second half. An initial shot by Eliot Putman was blocked and Fortnam-Tomlinson hit the post from the rebound and then Morgan followed that up to stab the ball home.
In the same division honours finished even between Wisbech Town and Spalding United.
It was 1-1 at half-time and it ended 1-1.
Gary King put Spalding ahead in the third minute and Danny Setchell levelled from the penalty spot on 35 minutes.
Spalding hit the post and had an effort cleared off the line in the first half and also missed several chances in the second half.
Wisbech had Setchell red carded in the second half for violent conduct.
