Yaxley’s first Evo Stik League campaign in the club’s history is being undermined by a shocking defensive record.

The Cuckoos have conceded 22 goals in their last three games in the last eight days. Home defeats of 7-4 and 9-0 (cup) were followed by a 6-2 drubbing at Cambridge City in Division One Central of the Evo Stik Southern League yesterday (October 6).

Yaxley competed well for an hour as Tom Waumsley and Joe Butterworth twice found equalisers, but the home side ran away in the final quarter scoring four unanswered goals.

Andy Furnell’s men still sit safely in mid-table with three wins and six defeats from nine matches, but their 28 goals conceded is the second worst tally in the division.

There was better news for Stamford AFC in Division One Esat of the Northern Premier Division as they saw off an impressive Brighouse team 3-2 at the Zeeco Stadium. Bradley Fortnam-Tomlinson, Chris Salt and Grant Ryan scored for the Daniels who played out the final stages with 10 men following a red card for Mike Armstrong. Brighouse had a player sent off earlier in the game.

Ryan and Kern Miller were making their second Stamford debuts after returning to the club last week. Elliot Putman has left to join higher level Barwell.

Stamford are seventh, but just two points off second place, while Spalding United and Wisbech Town struggle at the other end of the table.

Spalding haven’t won any of their 11 league games and their poor run continued with a 2-1 reverse at Frickley Athletic yesterday. The Tulips led through Luke White’s 61st minute goal entering the final eight minutes, but conceded twice late on.

Michael Frew drew Wisbech level at home to Tadcaster on the half hour mark, but the visitors eventually ran out 4-1 winners to leave the Fenmen 17th in a 20-team division. Spalding are 19th.

Pinchbeck United moved to the top of the United Counties Premier Division with a 6-0 duffing of Wellingborough Whitworth and a home defeat for previous leaders Daventry to Eynesbury. It was 5-0 at the break against the division’s next-to-bottom club with loan signing Ewan Fieldhouse from Yaxley scoring twice.

Holbeach are third after goals from Will Bird and Johnny Clay secured a 2-0 win at Desborough, but Peterborough Northern Star’s fine run of form came to an abrupt end as they crashed to a 6-1 win home defeat to ON Chenecks. Star, who had won their three previous Premier Division games, were 5-1 down at the break with Jake Sansby netting a consolation goal from the penalty spot.

Star drop two places to ninth as a result. Deeping Rangers are seventh after their home game with Oadby was postponed because of a disciplinary issue for the scheduled visitors.

Player-manager Lee Clarke grabbed Blackstones’ equaliser in a 1-1 Division One draw with Sileby and Zak Munton bagged a hat-trick as Bourne claimed a 4-3 win at home to Burton Park Wanderers. Stones are sixth with Bourne in 12th.

And the impressive form of March Town continued with a 3-1 win at Sudbury Reserves in Division One of the Thurlow Nunn Eastern Counties League.
