The unnamed player was not the left-sided central defender expected to sign for the club when he returns from holiday later this week.

McCann’s first signing was 21-year-old right-back Hayden White who was a free agent after his contract at Bolton Wanderers expired.

Posh are also expected to reveal the name of the man who will become McCann’s first-team coach this week.

Young striker Jack Friend, one of the players released by Posh earlier this month, has returned to his hometown club Wisbech Town who play in the United Counties Premier Division. Friend (19) played on loan at Boston United and King’s Lynn last season.

Posh will travel to National League side Boreham Wood for a pre-season friendly on Monday, July 11 (7.30pm kick off).
