Netherton United will put a troublesome start to the season behind them

Reigning Peterborough Premier Division champions Netherton United will try and put a traumatic start to the season behind them when they visit lowly Langtoft United tomorrow (October 13).

Netherton United manager Jon Harrison.

The city side have fallen 11 points off the fearsome pace being set by unbeaten leaders Moulton Harrox after losing at Broad Lane last weekend, a match that finished with match referee James Truman alleging his family had received a threatening phone call. Netherton officials are adamant no-one associated with their club would have made such a call.

It’s not the first controversial incident at a Netherton match this season. The champions were also irritated by Peterborough Sports filling their ‘development’ side with first-team players for a Premier Division match earlier in the campaign and a top-flight game against Sutton Bridge United was abandoned with three minutes to go when Netherton boss Jon Harrison was accused of refusing to leave the field of play by the referee.

Harrison has now been told he has no case to answer re the Sutton Bridge game so the threat of a points deduction - Netherton were winning the game 7-0 - has been removed and he now hopes he can concentrate on lifting his side up from their current fourth place position.

The Peterborough League have declined to make a comment on last week’s incident, although it’s understood Truman’s claims have been passed to the relevant county FA.

Harrox host bottom club Peterborough Polonia tomorrow when Premier Division sides Whittlesey Athletic and Leverington Sports are in Cambs Cup action.
