MATCH REACTION: A Taylor-made Posh partnership in the offing

Taylor was Posh’s stand out player in today’s (July 16) 3-0 home defeat by Championship side Norwich City. It’s the first defeat of the friendly campaign for McCann’s men.

The step up in the standard of o[pposition wa stoo much for some Posh playes, but McCann was pleased overall.

McCann said; “I was pleased with first 60 minutes, but we were too sloppy in the second 60 minutes. The tempo wasn’t right for some reason.

“But it was another good workout against a very good team and that’s the most important thing at this stage of the summer. Most of the players got another 60 minutes into their legs and we didn’t pick up any more injuries.

“Norwich pass the ball really well so it was a good test for us when we were out of possession.

“Paul Taylor was good today. Considering it was his second game in two years it was a good performance. He said afterwards he felt good and the best thing is he will be a lot better when he’s had four or five more run outs.

“I think there is potential between Paul and Shaquile. I’m trying to get Shaq to run in behind defenders more and to use his pace. They will also get better as they play more together.”

Trialist striker Morgan Ferrier played the second hour of today’s match and will play again against a West Ham XI at the ABAX Stadium on Tuesday (July 19).

Fellow forwards Aaron Williams, Joe Gormley and Matty Stevens will play against Bedford for Posh Under 21s on Monday (July 18). Stevens missed today’s game to attend a family wedding.

“I’m just trying to fit the same game time into the many strikers we have at the club,” McCann added.

“It was hard to judge Morgan. He’s only been with us for three days and Norwich had a lot of the ball when he was on the pitch today.

“We’ve had some good tests against good teams and we will get another one on Tuesday.”
