MATCH REACTION: McCann furious at his team's ill-discipline

In a disastrous finish to the game, Posh conceded two injury-time goals, saw captain Chris Forrester sent off for foul and abusive language for protesting about Erhun Oztumer’s opener direct from a corner, and lost key midfielder Gwion Edwards to a nasty-looking injury.

But McCann wasn’t feeling sorry for his team. He said they ‘100 per cent’ deserved to lose the game because of their ill-discipine.

He was particularly angry with Forrester and blamed goalkeeper Luke McGee for the opening goal which was hotly disputed by the Posh players.

“I’m most angry with my skipper for getting sent off when there was still six or seven minutes to go and a chance of getting back into the game,” MvcCann raged. “I don’t know what he said, but he will be disciplined in-house.

“We 100 per cent deserved to lose that game purely because of our ill discipline. There was nothing in the game - they had chances we had chances - and I always felt a mistake was going to decide the outcome.

“And so it proved. Luke McGee has been brilliant for us, but he’s made a big mistake. I’ve watched the incident back because it seemed so controversial and for me any contact is minimal. If Luke feels contact he must punch the ball there. I have no complaints about the decision.

“But it’s the lack of discipline that’s killed us. We even had an incident where my centre-half (David Ball) is having a push and shove with our goalkeeper. That’s been sorted already, but we doin’t tolerate that sort of thing at this club. We’ve also seen Anthony Grant pick up a booking and he will now be suspended. It’s the worst day of my management career.

“We tried to be bold at the end and win the game. We went 3-4-3, got all our attacking players on to try and get a goal.

“We huffed and puffed, but when things aren’t going for you in front of goal, make sure you come away with a point, but we couldn’t manage it and that’s very frustrating.

“A draw wouldn’t have been a bad result as Walsall is a hard place to come.”

Posh now head into a crunch game at home to Southend on Tuesday (February 21) with three key midfielders missing. Forrester and Anthony Grant will be suspended and Edwards will miss presumably the match because of injury.
