Vivacity Culture & Leisure have become the first Sports Trust in the UK to sponsor a football referee development scheme in partnership with the Peterborough Referees’ Association.
The Peterborough & Fenland Referee Development Scheme has received £2,000 of Vivacity sponsorship which will go towards supporting young match officials over the next 12 months.
The sponsorship deal was announced at the Peterborough Junior Alliance League AGM by Robert Windle, chairman of the Peterborough Referees’ Association, and Ben Clawson-Chan, Vivacity director of sport & healthy living, and will help to provide more officials for the future and help all referees reach their full potential.
The initial scheme launched by Windle in 2011 stemmed from a shortage in match referees, which has now been addressed.
Windle said: “The sponsorship from Vivacity will help the game enormously in raising standards and giving referees greater opportunities. The scheme will ensure we have enough referees in training for the future to cover all games in the area.”
