Seven straight wins had taken Thorney to the top of the top-flight table for the first time in the club’s history, but they were beaten 2-1 at Stamford Lions on Saturday (September 1) to drop down to third.

The Lions enjoyed a perfect start with a first-minute goal from Kieran Duffy-Weakes, but John Yambuso equalised for Thorney before the break.

A Tom Lees strike early in the second half secured the win for the home side, enabling Moulton Harrox and Netherton United to move above Thorney.

Harrox now boast the only perfect winning record in the division after a 3-2 win at Peterborough Polonia. That’s eight in a row for the South Lincs club after goals from Joe Townsend, Ashley Coddington and Declan Earth.

Netherton made it seven wins from eight with a 3-0 win at a much-improved Holbeach United Reserves. Robbie Ellis opened up a tight game with a quality shot from 25 yards before two goals from Herbie Panting, one a superb set-piece strike, delivered a rather flattering final scoreline.

Two goals from Jamie Darlow helped Whittlesey Athletic to recover from a first defeat of the season against Thorney with a 4-0 home win over Leverington Sports.

Long Sutton Athletic moved away from the bottom with a second successive win. They fought back from 2-0 down to win 3-2 at Ketton, while the youngsters of Peterborough Sports Development continued their impressive start to their season with a 2-1 win at Sutton Bridge United. Henry Nkobi and Ryan Pratt scored the goals for the city side.

Kris Kefford and Michael Nelson both scored twice as Oakham United thumped ICA Sports 6-1, while Tydd eased to a 2-0 success over Langtoft United.
