Star sides shining bright as the battle for cup glory begins

It was a super Sunday for the two Peterborough Northern Star Under 12 teams.

Both were involved in cup competitions and both cleared their first hurdle in some style.

In the first round of the Peterborough Junior Alliance League Cup, Northern Star Red knocked out Division Two rivals Deeping Rangers Claret 5-0 thanks to goals by Tyler Sansom, Lewis Smith, Ashton Stevens, Suhaib Al and Evan Watkins.

And in the opening round of the Hereward Cup for Division Three and Division Four teams, there was a 9-0 win for Northern Star Black against FC Peterborough.

Their scorers were Daivaras Zigmantas (3), Oliver Feetham (2), Owen Payne (2), Callum Adcock and Archie McCarthy.

In the Under 13 League Cup there were comfortable victories for fancied teams Spalding United Blue and Stamford Young Daniels Red.

Spalding were 9-0 winners away to Werrington Athletic with Derrie Maxwell (4), Liam Smith (3) and Miguel Moitinho (2) doing the scoring, while Stamford won 7-3 at Yaxley thanks to goals by Rhys Howard (3), Thomas Carr, Ewan Simmons, Matthew Walker and Riley Kendle.

In the Under 13 Hereward Cup, Netherton United Ravens from Division Four provided the shock result of the round by winning 4-1 at Bourne Town Red from Division Three.

The Netherton players on target were Brady Leishman (2), Marcus Buckle and Ruben Soares.

Glinton & Northborough Navy also had a big win in the Hereward Cup. They hammered Park Farm Pumas Black 7-1 with goals by Finn Macaulay (2), Jack Brearley (2), Harry Page, Jacob Horner and Callum Jesson.

Under 14 Division One leaders Deeping beat March 2-1 with two goals by Daniel Tarver.

Bourne Town Blue, ICA Sports and Oundle Town all remain unbeaten in Under 18 Division One of the Peterborough Youth League.

Table-toppers Bourne overcame big rivals Peterborough Northern Star 4-2 in their latest game with goals by Ryan Sharp (2), Oliver Parkin and Luke Glover to make it three wins out of three.

ICA beat Netherton 2-0 through strikes by Thomas Baxter and Benjamin Denton while Oundle won 5-1 at March Academy White.

ICA and Oundle have both won two out of two.

In Under 18 Division Two it’s Werrington Athletic setting the early pace.

They continued their winning start to the campaign with a 3-0 victory at Bourne Town Claret where Oliver Goymour and Steven Greaves (2) found the back of the net.

They are two points clear of Thorney Colts, who were 5-1 winners at Hungate Rovers. Here Fowler Edwards bagged a brace with Kyle Ginns, Ben Smart and Lewis Beckitt the other Thorney scorers.
