Peterborough Northern Star Ladies started 2015 as they finished off 2014 with a very convincing win over lowly opposition.
The city side travelled to Gedling in Nottingham and chalked up a 6-0 win to move up to second in the East Midlands League Premier Division and boost their promotion hopes.
Star started brightly and went ahead after five minutes when a free-kick from Stef Pepper was diverted off a home player’s head past her own keeper.
Vicky Gallagher made it 2-0 after 10 minutes, new signing Abby Young made it 3-0 after 15 minutes and Jess Farchica and Chanade Henderson added further goals before the break.
Young rounded off the scoring with her second after the break.
Star boss Steve Iredale said: “It’s down to the commitment of the players to get us to the next level.
“This squad is without doubt good enough to win this league but it’s about more than just turning up on a Sunday to play.
“The good thing is that the players are seeing the benefits of the training we’re putting in.”
