Soccerstar Academy are thowing open their doors to female footballers for the first time.

The football and education programme allows school-leavers the chance to study for a BTEC Diploma in Sports Level 3 as well as the FA Coaching Certificate Level 1 and will run alongside the long-standing boys’ academy at In2itive Park.

The academy will also field a team in the female British Colleges’ League and Genovese is hopeful the new venture will prove popular.

“There is a real surge in both interest and participation in girls and women’s football at the moment,” said Genovese.

“We feel this is the perfect time to launch a female academy and there is nothing like this in the area at the moment.”
