Thorney are sitting at the top of the Peterborough League Premier Division today (August 29) for the first time in the club’s history.

The village side made it a magnificent seven wins from seven games last night when Dan Fountain scored from the penalty spot in the 22nd minute to earn a 1-0 win against Whittlesey Athletic.

Thorney are three points clear of Moulton Harrox, who will go back to the summit if they win at Langtoft tonight.

In other games last night, Ketton and Long Sutton Athletic both picked up their first victories of the season. Ketton won 3-2 at ICA thanks to goals by Joe Hussey, Greg Rawlinson and Matthew Woodman while Long Sutton were 3-0 winners at home to Sutton Bridge.

Holbeach United Reserves beat Leverington Sports 2-0.

FC Parson Drove went nine points clear at the top of Division One with a 3-1 win over second-placed Eye United.

Reigning Premier Division champions Netherton are away to Peterborough Polonia tonight.
