Premiership referee Kevin Friend certainly put in a full shift when he visited Peterborough last week.
Friend was the main main for the seventh Young Referees Day organised by Peterborough Referees Association.
Again it was a big success with Friend visiting four academies and meeting over 400 pupils and then addressing a packed audience at the Fleet.
The day started at Fulbridge Road Academy, where 26 girls and boys played mini-soccer and had a go at being the match official.
Nene Park Academy was the next stop and 32 pupils tried their hand at refereeing.
Stop three was at Newark Hill Academy where after another series of matches a 300-strong assembly bombarded Friend with questions.
Finally it was on to Stanground Academy where the hosts organised a Year 7 5-a-side tournament in which young referees could show Friend their talents.
Friend’s final duty of the day was to address 175 young referees and their parents at a meeting at The Fleet, Fletton. They were treated to fun games, workshops, a motivational talk and the presentation of Referees Association awards to Ashley Baldock Smith (Young Referee of the Season), Sarah Grundy (Referee of the Season) and John Cross (Service to Football).
