Coates Athletic manager Andy Lodge admits Oakham United are now strong favourites for the Premier Division title.
Oakham jumped back to the top of the table last weekend as a 5-0 win at Sawtry was accompanied by a 1-1 draw for previous leaders Coates against Netherton United.
Oakham are a point clear and have a game in hand. Coates have just six matches left to turn the title race around.
“Oakham are big favourites now,” Lodge admitted. “They look to have a reasonably easy run-in, but all we can do is win our final games and try and put as much pressure on them as possible.
“We missed a big opprotunity against Netherton. We had the chances to score at least three or four goals in the first half.
“I’d be disappointed not to win the league after we’ve been there or thereabouts all season, but we will keep going to the end.
“It’s a competitive division so Oakham won’t be able to relax.”
Liam Harrold equalised for Coates straight after Dwayne Rankin had given Netherton the lead.
Coates have a tough game at Pinchbeck this Saturday, while Oakham travel to bottom club Leverington.
Third-placed Stilton still have an outside chance of finishing top, particularly as they still have Oakham and Coates to play.
Craig Smith scored a hat-trick in Stilton’s 3-0 win over Holbeach last weekend. Stilton have a tricky game at Netherton on Saturday.
Crowland moved off the bottom of the table with a 1-1 draw at Pinchbeck last weekend.
