Local referee Michael Dunkley was on international duty on Sunday (April 26).
Dunkley (21) was the fourth official for the Engalnd v Scotland schoolboy match at Nantwich Town.
Dunkley, who is a Huntingdonshire FA referee, has been refereeing since he was 14 and is currently a level 4 match official officiating on the United Counties League.
He said: “It was a terrific honour to be selected especially being part of a team led by FIFA and Premiership referee Craig Pawson.
“To receive an international cap by the organisers will rank very highly in my refereeing career.”
Robert Windle, chairman of Peterborough Referees Association, was present at the match and said: “For Michael to follow the footsteps of Tom Beeton, Matthew Smith, Michael McDonald, Sarah Grundy, Jasmine Priddis, Ellie Bennington and Louisa Thorold all from this area who have officiated school boy/girl internationals shows the hard work and dedication that these young referees put into refereeing and consequently earning the rewards the follow.”
The next referees course is during half-term - Thursday 28th and 29th May at the Grange (9am-5pm). Interested persons must be aged at least 14. For more details visit www.northamptonshirefa.com/ referee
