Langtoft United claimed their first cup win in nine attempts to move into the quarter-finals of the PFA Senior Cup yesterday (December 12).
The Peterborough Premier Division side triumphed 2-1 at First Division outfit Wisbect Town Reserves thanks to goals from Joe Dobson and Daniel Morris. Crucially Langtoft ‘keeper Andrew Isabell saved an 88th penalty.
George Buckenham had equalised early in the second half for the home side. Langoft, who last won a cup match when winning the Chairman’s Shield Final in May 2014 (they’ve had eight first round exits in various competitions since), now travel to Premier Division rivals Pinchbeck United in the last eight.
In a depleted Premier Division programme Whittlesey Athletic moved into second place after recording a 12th straight success. Goals from Lewis Stone, Joe Butterworth and Harry Jenkins secured a 3-0 win over ICA Sports which will put Whittlesey in great spirits ahead of their top-of-the-table clash at home to Moulton Harrox next Saturday (December 19).
“Considering the terribel conditions that was our best performance of the season yesterday,” claimed Whittlesey manager Andy Lodge. “It sets up next week nicely as we will go top if we win.”
Moulton’s scheduled game at Sawtry was postponed yesterday. They are two points clear of Whittlesey with a game in hand.
In-form Uppingham beat Stilton 2-1 in the only other fixture to beat the weather, although title challengers Peterborough Sports Reserves cruised to a 5-0 win at Kettering Park Rovers in the Northants Lower Junior Cup.
