LINCS SENIOR TROPHY: Tulips set up tasty semi-final tie with Daniels
Manager Dave Frecklington believes Spalding's are '˜not pretty, but effective'.
The Tulips manager’s plans paid off with a last-minute winner at Boston United in the Lincolnshire FA Senior Cup quarter-final on Saturday (July 16).
Rees Longville-Daley – who came on as a substitute on the hour mark – poked home the only goal.
Spalding’s reward is a semi-final tie at Stamford on August 6. Stamford beat League Two side Grimsby in their quarter-final.
Frecklington said: “That performance showed everything we have worked on and set up to do from the first pre-season session. “It might not be pretty – but it’s effective!
“We found a way to win the game. And that’s the way I like to play.
“We put our bodies on the line and the boys listened to what we are trying to tell them to do.
“We had three 18-year-olds and a 17-year-old out there on Saturday, but the experienced players brought them through the game.
“In the second half Jonny Lockie gave their left-back a torrid time.
“It was a fantastic display all over the team. We wanted to come out of the game with credit and we got a lot more!”
Spalding are due back in action at Harrowby United in a friendly tomorrow (July 19).
In friendly action Peterborough Sports won their first-ever European fixture. A hat-trick from Mark Jones - he now has nine goals in four friendlies - amd strikes from Avelino Vieira and David Cobb gave Sports a 5-2 win in Prague against Predni Kopanina.
