LINCOLNSHIRE FA AWARDS: Proudest moment for Crowland Juniors chairman

Crowland Juniors have been rewarded for their efforts by being named Lincolnshire FA Charter Standard club of the year.

They picked up the prize at the fourth annual community awards evening held at The Epic Centre, Lincolnshire Showground.

Chairman Danny Jackson, who has been involved in local football for more than 45 years, said it was “one of my proudest and best moments”.

He added: “This is a great achievement for the sponsors, players, supporters and past and present committee members associated with Crowland Juniors FC who give up their time voluntarily every week for the kids of Crowland.

“We would also like to thank the Peterborough Junior Alliance League for their nomination of this award.”

Crowland currently run teams at under-6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 12, 13, 14 and 15.

Since falling to only three teams and reforming the club’s committee, Crowland have had a steady rise in the number of teams and coaches during the past three years.

They consistently meet FA Charter Standard requirements, completing their annual health check within the allotted time.

Crowland Juniors are also at the forefront of player development, working closely with the league in their weekly Futsal Fives.

Lincolnshire’s grassroots heroes – clubs, leagues, referees and volunteers who make football happen within the county – were recognised at the awards evening.

The special guest for the awards ceremony was Graham Alexander, manager of Sky Bet League One club Scunthorpe United.

Among the other winners was Deepings teenager Ashley Baldock-Smith who claimed the young referee award (18 to 25 years).

He took charge of his first adult cup final at the age of 16 after a notable first season in the Peterborough League which also saw him win the young referee of the year award.

His potential has been recognised nationally after securing a place in the Eastern Region Centre of Referee Excellence.

At just 18, he has been jointly voted referee of the year in the Peterborough League.

Baldock-Smith has also represented Lincolnshire on two county cup finals.

A course for referees will be held over the weekend of September 10 and 11 at Boston United.

The majority of the course will be held delivering practical sessions on the main pitch.
