Glover has confirmed, in an interview conducted by BBC Radio Cambridgeshire, he was sacked by Posh today (March 20) during a meeting with club director of football Barry Fry.

But the 46 year-old still departs on good terms. He’s called on everyone connected with the club to pull together and get behind manager Grant McCann for the rest of this season and beyond.

Posh have collected 15 League One points from a possible 48 in 2017.

“Results have been poor this year and, probably, I’ve carried the can,” Glover said.

“I had a chat with Barry Fry today and my contract was terminated. It was a decision taken at board level and, although I’m disappointed, these things happen in football.

“It’s not the first time someone’s been sacked in football, but I did enjoy my time at a great club and I wish them all the best going forward.

“Grant McCann will be okay. I’ve had a chat with him and I’ll speak with him again tonight. Like me he’s an honest bloke.

“He’s had a lot to deal with in the last couple of months and he’s dealt with it all in a professional and mature manner which you might not have expected from an inexperienced manager.

“It’s time now for everyone at the club to rally round Grant and help him. It’s time for everyone at the club to back each other up.

“I really hope Grant gets a few wins between now and the end of the season. He’s made plenty of good decisions this season, but the bottom line is we haven’t won enough games.

“We’ve let in far too many goals since Christmas and no clean sheets creates pressure. It’s been a return to the form of 12 months ago.

“Before then we’d had a great run to get into a good league position and we won an FA Cup trip to Chelsea.

“I’m disapppointed to no longer be part of a club with a lot going for it, one with a lot of good people, but I’ll be back. It’s been a big learning curve for me. The experience has been positive. I’m still enthusiastic about the game.

“I’ve stayed in football since I played for Nottingham Forest in 1986 apart from a three-or-four week spell in the summer so I will get back in.

“I’m on gardening leave now so I’ll probably go on holiday with the family. I’m not the sort to be happy wandering around garden centres every Saturday.”

Glover had been hand picked by Posh boss Grant McCann in the summer. The pair had met while on the same coaching course.

Former Posh coach Kevin Russell has been linked with a return to Posh. He had great success in the role under Darren Ferguson, but is currently employed by Stoke City.
