New manager Grant McCann left the 24-year-old out of the pre-season training camp in Portugal after telling him he didn’t feature in his plans for the 2016-17 League One campaign.

Beautyman has made 45 Posh appearances since joining the club from non-league Welling. He scored five goals, three of them last season.

Posh are also keen to off-load midfielder Jack Payne and striker Luke James.

Payne, who cost Posh a reported £750,000 when signed from Gillingham in 2013, is now available on a free transfer. He has just returned from honeymoon.

James, who cost Posh a reported £500,000 when signed from Hartlepool in 2014, was close to returning to his former club, but that deal has now fallen through.

MacAnthony said: “Grant has to be ruthless so to speak, but he’s also doing the players he’s left behind a favour.

“As soon as Barry Fry (director of football) agrees a deal with a club, the player concerned can go and speak to them straight away.

“Harry Beautyman is on the transfer list and there has already been some interest. Jack Payne can leave on a free transfer and again there has been interest in him.

“Luke James also doesn’t feature in Grant’s plans. We had done a deal with Hartlepool to take him back and I understand the player had agreed terms, but for some reason Hartlepool changed their minds.”

MacAnthony confirmed young wingers Jordan Nicholson and Harry Anderson will be going out on loan to League Two clubs. Other players on the periphary of the first team squad might also be allowed to leave on loan.

McCann has been pleased with the training sessions in the first week of pre-season training.

“The players have done well,” McCann insisted. “It’s 30 degrees here so it’s been tough going, but the lads have been sharp and they look fit.”
