FOOTBALL: Warboys on the warpath after shock PFA Cup win over Netherton

There was a major shock in the quarter-finals of the PFA Senior Cup on Saturday (January 23) as First Division Warboys Town thumped last season's runners-up Netherton United 4-0 at Forge Way.

All the goals arrived in the second half with Michael Cafferkey, a man more renowned for his cricketing skills with Ramsey. scoring twice. Scott Duncan and Mark Boucher also scored as Warboys, who are seventh in Division One, set up a quarter-final showdown with fellow First Division side Stamford Lions on February 6.

There were no such shocks in the Peterborough Premier Division as top two Moulton Harrox and Whittlesey Athletic continue to slug it out for the title.

An Ollie Maltby hat-trick enabled Harrox to beat local rivals Holbeach United Reserves 3-1 and remain three points clear with a game in hand. Unbeaten Harrox have won 15 of their 16 Premier Division fixtures.

Whittlesey Athletic gave their goal difference a boost by hammering Deeping Rangers 6-0. Liam Harrold and Jack Bates both scored twice with Jon Kerrison and Sam Donohoe also netting.

In-form Uppingham Town surrendered a 2-0 half-time lead as they were held to a 2-2 draw by AFC Stanground. Josh Staggs and Daniel Stephens scored the goals for the city side.

Zack Fisher bagged a hat-trick as Stilton won 4-0 at bottom club Riverside, while Crowland won for just the third time this season, 3-2 at fading Thorney.

Peterborough Sports Reserves were disappointed with their 2-1 defeat at Wellingborough Rising Sun in the Northants Lower Junior Cup. Gary Gibbs scored their goal.

Netherton have a chance to gain a cup consolation when they host Whittlesey Athletic in a President’s Shield game at the Grange on Wednesday (January 27. 8.05pm kick off).
