The event, which sprang from the Peterborough FA 125th Anniversary Fun Day last year, was organised by Peterborough Referees’ Association chairman Robert Windle and supported by hosts Vivacity, who manage Bushfield Leisure Centre.

A series of matches took place for Under 9 to Under 12 teams on the 3G pitch and all the players were rewarded with engraved medals .

Windle said: “The day clearly had a festival atmosphere with no scores recorded and the players and managers playing in the right spirit.

“One of the key elements was allowing some of the new recruits from the recent referees course to have a go in a no-pressure environment.

“We are the first referees association in the country to organise a football festival and we are greatful to the Mayor and Mayoress and Vivacity for their support “
