FIXTURES EXTRA: Fry frustration at another opening day awayday

Director of football Barry Fry says Peterborough United are gutted at missing out on a home start to a new campaign for the third season running.

Posh will again play away to Rochdale on the opening day of the new League One season on August 6 thus missing out on a potential financial windfall.

“The first game of a season usually gets a good crowd,” Fry said. “So for us to have to play away at Rochdale for a third straight season is very disappointing.

“With a popular new manager and no Premier League games to compete against, I’m sure we would have attracted a decent crowd.

“I’m also frustrated we are playing Northampton at home on a night when there is European Champions League football which is bound to affect the attendance.

“We did at least get Sheffield United at home on a Saturday which is something we asked for having played them on a Tuesday night in the last two seasons.”
