Double cup final despair for Glinton

There was a double dose of disappointment for the Glinton and Northborough club at Under 14 level at the weekend.

They had teams in both Sunday’s cup finals in that age group and twice finished as runners-up.

In the League Cup final at Chestnut Avenue it was Netherton who took the honours 4-0 against Glinton & Northborough Amber.

Although Glinton sit two places higher than Netherton in the Division One table it was the latter who bossed proceedings on Sunday.

Bradley Gilbert found the back of the net twice to take his tally of goals for the season to 31 and earn the man-of-the-match award and Sulaiman Saleem and Evan Walters were also on target.

The Hereward Cup final, also at Chestnut Avenue, was between Division Two rivals Glinton & Northborough Black and Hungate and it was the lads from Emneth who took the honours 3-1.

Their scorers were Jack Cook, man-of-the-match award winner Freddie Collison and Kieran Warden with Andrew Irvine netting for Glinton.

Irvine has scored 53 goals this season.

Meanwhile there was a shock result in Under 14 Division One on Sunday with title favourites Wasps losing for the first time this season.

They slipped up 2-1 at home to Leverington, who had Billy Barnes and Louie Garner on target in the second half. Taylor Horne had given Wasps a first-half lead.

Wasps still top the table but their lead has been cut to two points as second-placed Gunthorpe Harriers won 5-2 at Wisbech St Mary with Ryan Bishop blasting a hat-trick.

Wasps have there games left to play and Gunthorpe two.

In Under 13 Division One, the top-of-the-table clash between Hampton Blue and Alconbury ended in a 3-0 win for Hampton.

Rio Smith (2) and Lemar Moore got their goals and they’ve now closed the gap on Alconbury to three points.

Alconbury have two games remaining and Hampton three.
