Battle for first-team places hots up as Peterborough United stroll to success at MK Dons
The battle for Peterborough United first-team places warmed up today (September 17) as a strong second string won 3-0 in a friendly at MK Dons.
Ivan Toney, Jamie Walker and Tyler Denton scored the goals for Posh in a dominant performance that gave food for thought to manager Steve Evans.
Posh delivered a disappointing display when losing ther unbeaten record to Portsmouth on Saturday.
“We played well today,” Evans announced. “There are a few players who are demanding a start in the first team which is exactly what I want to see in these games. MK fielded a decent side, but we won comfortably in the end.
“I am fortunate to have strength in depth in my squad. It’s becoming a regular theme that we kick on after we make substitutions and Toney, Walker and Marcus Maddison made a very positive impact against Portsmouth.
“They all had a hand in our goal which was so good it would have been replayed endlessly if it had mattered more.
“We need to start games like we finish them though. I watched the Portsmouth game back yesterday and there wasn’t a lot between the sides. If they are up there at the end of the season - and I think they will be - then we should expect to be there or thereabouts as well.”
Posh, who are now second in League One behind Pompey, are back in action at struggling Gillingham on Saturday (September 22).
