Eddy leads the BCKA gold rush
The event at the Lodge Park Sports Centre was the BCKA National Kickboxing Championships, also featuring the European Invitation Challenge Cup.
Peterborough BCKA had 20 members in action and, competing against the best fighters from all over England as well as Ireland, Scotland and Germany, they managed to claim an impressive 18 gold medals plus plenty of silvers and bronze.

Hide AdPeterborough BCKA chief instructor Andy Whitwell said: “It was a superb event featuring martial arts at the very top level. To come away with 18 European Invitation titles was a great achievement.
“As always, I was very proud of all of our fighters, whether they won or lost, as I know they all gave 100 per cent
“And it was great news for our new sponsor as it was our first competition in the uniforms sponsored by MT Cars - Subaru of Whittlesey.”
Star of the show for the Peterborough club was Eddy Paddock, the reigning junior sportsman of the year in the Peterborough Telegraph Sports Awards.

Hide AdHe claimed five gold medals and a bronze and he was one of three BCKA kickboxers to feature in victorious England teams in international events. The other two were Leon Gold and Matthew Lazenby.
Paddock’s outstanding effort also earned him the ‘Fighter of the Day’ trophy.
Gold finished the day with three gold medals while Freya Molloy, Abi Daulton and Kelsey Lock each won two.

Hide AdThe Peterborough Kuk Sool Won martial arts school had great success at the recent WKSA European Championships in Norwich.
There were over 800 entrants and Peterborough’s small team of five won a total of 10 medals, including golds for Martin Samko (2) and Nikolas Samo. Jay Samko and Jaroslav Samko won silvers.
Instructor David Storey said “I am so proud of everyone. They all practice extremely well in class and their success is well deserved.”

JAMA SISTER ACT

Hide AdThe English WFMC (World Fight Sport and Martial Arts Council) Championships turned out to be an impressive sister act for city kick-boxing club JAMA.
Gemma (Under 55kg light-continuous) and younger sister Elizabeth Carter (Under 50kg semi-contact) both won gold medals as did instructors Lianne (Under 60kg semi-contact and light-continuous) and younger sister Bethany Jones (Under 50kg semi-contact, Over 65kg semi-contact and Under 50kg light-continuous).
All four qualified for the WFMC world championships in Manchester in October.
