Martin ‘Wolfie’ Adams made a cracking start to his first appearance in the prestigious Grand Slam of Darts.
The Deeping ace beat number eight seed Ian ‘Diamond’ White 5-2 in his opening group match in an event that has attracted the best players from the PDC and BDO circuits.
Adams normally shuns the opportunity to mix with the likes of Phil Taylor and Michael Van Gerwen, but he’s been bullish all week about his chances of beating the best.
And he showed some excellent form against White In Wolverhampton, He delivered two ton-plus finishes in the best of nine legs format.
There are eight groups of four players, who play each other once. The top two players from each group at the conclusion of the round-robin phase then progress to the knockout stage from the last 16 onwards.
Adams will probably qualify for the last 16 with a win against either Jelle Klaasen or Steve Beaton. Klaasen beat Beaton 5-4 today.
Adams is next in action tomorrow (November 8) against Klaasen between 7-11pm.
