It was a busy weekend for Peterborough Cycling Club members and this time it was the turn of Steve Wood to shine.
The Market Deeping-based part-time fireman teamed up with his Qualitetch Alston Country Homes sponsored team-mate Gareth Smith to ride the two-day three-stage Rockingham Forest race in Middleton Village.
Wood rode strongly over the two days with an excellent eighth place on the third stage and that helped him to eighth overall.
Smith also rode well on both days but his luck ran out on the last lap of the final stage when he suffered a puncture forcing him to abandon.
Elsewhere Jason Burrill was 18th in the Condor three-day event, Matt Garfield was 11th in the Iceni Velo road race on Sunday and seventh in the Ixworth town centre Criterium on Monday, while in the Cambridge CC 10-mile time trial at Hardwick Dave Hulatt finished 46th in 23.37 and Dafydd Houston 57th in 24.02.
The club’s resident professional Steve Lampier, riding for his trade team Raleigh GAC, contested the inaugural three-day Tour De Yorkshire and finished 18th on the third stage leap-frogging him to a very creditable 18th on general classification and just 2.38 from the winner.
