Fenland Clarion rider Simon Pitchford got his season off to a promising start by finishing third in the Peterborough Cycling Club hardriders event.
He completed the undulating 20-mile course around Folksworth in 50.26.
Fenland Clarion held the second of their spring youth cyclo-cross race meetings on Friday at the athletics track at the Embankment.
In the Under 8 age group there were strong performances from the host club’s Evander Wishart and Harry Tozer, while debutant Isla Earth from Sleaford Wheelers showed a great turn of speed to lead the challenge for the girls ahead of Thorpe Ventures’ Nieve Bryant and Kettering’s Ruby Issac.
At Under 10 level top rider was Oliver Tilley, who just edged out William Barraclough with Boston Wheeler Jael Maw close behind.
In the Under 12 age group only two points separated the first four riders. Kings Cliffe Flyer Jensen Barraclough came out on top, with Bethany Barnett and Harry Tilley just one point behind and the fast-improving Luke Armstrong fourth.
Armstrong’s younger brother Daniel was the next rider ahead of Devonne Piccaver and Finley Issac.
With one round to go in the series it’s Harry Tozer leading the way for the Under 8s with Nieve Bryant and Ruby Issac tied in the lead for the girls.
Leader of the Under 10s is the ever impressive Oliver Tilley from Florence Barnett with Ben Shepherd and Jael Maw sitting close behind.
In the Under 12s it’s another Tilley versus Barnett battle with Harry Tilley just three points ahead of Bethany Barnett and the two Armstrong brothers, Luke and Daniel, with Devonne Piccaver the next girl.
Cameron Neilson continues to remain unbeaten in the Under 14s, although James Piercy is battling hard to catch him.
There’s only been one competitor in the Under 16s so Mia Purnell can’t be caught.
The last event of the series is on March 11 and there’s a girls only night on April 8.
