Holders Nassington were dumped out in the first round of the Stamford Charity Cup by Market Deeping last night (May 9).
Deeping also gained revenge for defeat in last season’s Jaidka Cup Final by triumphing in a low scoring Twenty/20 game by five runs.
Skipper Dave Gillett top scored with 26 in Deeping’s 101 all out, but excellent bowling from Zac Simmonds (2-11), Josh Smith (2-16) and Lee Peacock (2-27) enabled them to defend a modest total in the gathering gloom.
Gary Scotcher (22) and Tom Burns (20no) tried hard to get Nassington over the line. Haroon Bashir (4-26) and Harrison Craig (3-23) bowled well for the losers.
Last season’s losing finalists Uppingham were also beaten last night, They went down by 29 runs at Castor for whom Ryan Evans (36 & 3-9) excelled.
Ross Porter also took three wickets for Castor who successfully defended 124-4.
There were other outstanding bowling displays, most notably from teenager Ben Dallas who grabbed 6-31 on his Ufford Park first team debut against new side Falcon. Falcon were dismissed for 87 after Ufford had racked up 178-8. A. Khan claimed 5-29 for Falcon.
And Ketton’s South African Ulrich Van Duyker bagged 5-31 for Ketton in their 72-run win over Hampton. Van Duyker (57no) had earlier joined in some big hitting with Zeeshan Manzoor as Ketton amassed 190-3. Manzoor clubbed three sixes and eight fours in his 74.
That wasn’t the top score of the night though as Barnack newcomer Mohammed Hammad smacked an unbeaten 79 in a six-wicket win over King’s Keys. Hammad had earlier taken 3-25 as King’s Keys were bowled out for 123.
Burghley Park won their ‘derby’ with Stamford Town by six wickets, while Orton Park conceded their tie with Bourne.
