Ufford Park’s second win of the Rutland Division One season was achieved against all the odds yesterday (June 19).
Ufford travelled with just nine men and little hope to Market Deeping, but returned with a six-wicket success under their belts (although because of the player shortage, Deeping were four wickets away from winning).
Star of the show was Andy Larkin who bashed an unbeaten 113 to speed Ufford past Deeping’s 169 all out. Larkin smashed eight sixes, but his side remain next-to-bottom, one place behind Deeping for whom Nick Green scored 55.
Co-incidentally Ufford Park seconds also played with nine men and still won against Long Sutton seconds by eight wickets in Division Six.
Uppingham are bottom of the Division One table and it’s been a remarkable fall from grace for the reigning champions.
Yesterday they were hustled out for just 77 by Wisbech who completed a seven-wicket win before 4pm. Brodie Ellis, Lyndon Waters and Harry Drew all took three wickets for Wisbech against an Uppingham side who are adrift at the foot of the table with just one win to their name.
At the other end of the division, Bourne have opened up a 33-point lead at the top after beating a Nassington side weakened by county call-ups by 158 runs.
Ben Keast (48no) top scored in Bourne’s 274-8, but Nassington were making serene progress until Jordan Temple was introduced into the attack. He promptly dismissed Nassington import Adam McDermott for 54 before running through the rest of the visitors’ batting line-up to return figures of 5-5 from just two overs! Temple had earlier contributed 36 runs.
Peterborough Town’s form continues to improve and a side including 10 players who played at youth level for the club defeated Oundle by 22 runs at Milton Road yesterday.
Dave Clarke struck 70 of Town’s 194-9 before Balaji Ganesan claimed six wickets for the second Division One game in a row in Oundle’s reply of 172.
Barnack beat Stamford by 39 runs, although Mohammed Hamad was frustrated to finish unbeaten on 99 in the winning side’s 182-5.
