Peterborough Town’s Northants Premier Division title hopes are all but over after a dismal defeat at lowly Brixworth on Saturday (August 18).
Town battered Brixworth at Bretton Gate earlier in the season, but bad starts to both innings allowed Saturday’s hosts to take revenge.
Town lost star batsmen Rob Sayer and David Clarke early in the contest and struggled to 191 thanks mainly to the efforts of Asim Butt and Vansh Bajaj who both made 49. Matt Milner chipped in with a useful 23 towards the end.
Milner (3-32) also bowled well, but the damage had been done by the time he was employed.
Opener Joshua Smith (71) took full advantage of some wayward early bowling to set Brixworth on the way to a four-wicket win.
Ironicall Town moved moved up a place to second as Old Northamptonians didn’t have a fixture. They also didn’t lose much ground on leaders Finedon who were held to a draw, but the city side have just four matches remaining, one fewer than the other members of the top three.
Oundle won a bottom of the table battle against Wollaston by seven wickets with Liam Fresen (3-32), Conor Craig (3-40) and Pete Foster (59) playing well.
