Peterborough Town’s young guns saw them to a nervy Northants Premier Division victory at Brixworth today (August 6).
Town made hard work of passing their hosts 163-8, but eventually scrambled home with three wickets to spare to keep alive their faint hopes of mounting a title challenge.
Reigning champions Rushden are next up for the city side who will need to perform considerably better to beat a team crammed with star players.
At least teenagers David Sayer and Mohammed Danyaal will approach the game in good spirits, as will another youngster, Kieran Judd who played well on his debut for 34.
Sayer bowled with hostile pace to return figures of 3-26 from 10 overs, while Danyaal picked up 2-40 from his eight overs. Both then combined to put on 27 for the eighth wicket to see Town home with Sayer finishing unbeaten on 23.
Town looked set for an easy win when reaching 105-2, but the departure of star man Asim Butt for 42 prompted a middle order collapse.
Judd stood firm striking six boundaries in his 60-ball knock.
Unsurprisingly the top four in the Premier Division all won again so Town remain 44 points behind leaders Old Northamptonians with six games to go.

There’s a huge game at the bottom of the Premier Division table next Saturday (August 13) when bottom two Wellingborough and Oundle Town square off.
Oundle are just 14 points clear of Wellingborough after both suffered heavy defeats today.
Oundle were crushed by 10 wickets by third-placed Finedon at Milton Road despite posting a respectable 50-over score of 187-7. Ben Graves smacked an impressive 72 from 82 balls as Oundle piled up 66 in the final eight overs.
But Finedon openers Callum Berrill and Sean Davis race to victory in just 32 overs without being parted. Berrill finished unbeaten on 94 from 92 balls.
