Bourne moved above Market Deeping in the Lincs Premier Division table yesterday (July 18) after a day of contrasting fortunes for the A15 neighbours.

Bourne delivered an impressive team display on the coast to see off Skegness by 85 runs, while Deeping suffered a shock four-wicket reverse at Grimsby. As a result Bourne are now third with Deeping fourth.

Conrad Louth (56) top scored in Bourne’s 221-9 before Colin Cheer (4-37) and Martin Shillito (3-36) ripped through the top of the Skegness batting order, but Deeping wasted good starts to both innings after a gruelling drive to the north of the county.

Chris Jones (51) helped Deeping reach 81-0, but too many other key players wasted decent starts and a final score of 185 always looked vulnerable.

And so it proved even though two early wickets for Patrick Brown did reduce the home side to 20-3. Dropped catches and some less-than-accurate bowling proved crucial.#

Start-of-the-day leaders Bracebridge Heath were beaten at Lincoln enabling Woodhall Spa to hit top spot. Woodhall are at Deeping next Saturday (July 25).

Spalding continue to fight for their Premier Division lives at the bottom of the table. They scrapped hard for a draw at Market Rasen yesterday, but they remain 26 points short of safety.

Ben Smith’s second successive half century - he finished unbeaten on 64 - steered Spalding to 177-8 in reply to Rasen’s 190-8. Warren Nel bagged 5-54 in the Rasen innings
